He Came In with a Bang!

With Over 46 million YouTube views! "Bangs" is by far one of the biggest hits on the internet and undoubtedly 'the most watched Southern Sudanese 'person' online'! With such fame...comes plenty of blame, controversy and opinions. Whether you hate him or love him, are embarrassed or proud of him,  Bangs has got ALOT of people talking!

His debut hit "Let me take you to the movies" went viral and dominated facebook walls and YouTube with almost 4 million views! His well documented 'beef' with self-named 'Dark Hater' spiraled out of control adding to all the negative attention Bangs received! To some, Bangs is no more than a "Joke...an embarrassing, lost, confused, illiterate who has fallen victim to the empty buffoonery of ghetto America", while to others "Bangs is a groundbreaking, fearless, driven individual who had a dream, saw an opportunity and seized it"!

The masked Dark Hater, named so for his negative but somewhat realistic perspective of all matters controversial refers to Bangs "As the worst atrocity in human history...the latest YouTube Joke". He argues that Bangs, being a Sudanese and coming from a war torn country, should not try to emmulate "that" fake, thugged-out, "circus-clown", hood-rat mentality that average Americans laugh at! Dark Hater then goes into the geography of Bangs native country and highlights the "stupidity" of his music by juxtaposing it with harsh imagery of the genocide in Darfur! His point is......

Bangs should be using his voice to educate the world on the rich history of Sudan and the atrocities going on.

What do you think?

  1. I loved the entry, it made me chuckle. But I do agree with Dark Hater. I find the song painfully cringe worthy. Where is the rhythm and where did his inspiration come from?? "Hey shawty, where you at? Where you going? Can I see you later, cause I can see you busy right now. Meet me at the shop about 4 o'clock don't forget and don't be late. I can tell you what to do when you come back..." WHAT IS THAT??
However, just because you come from a country with conflict such as Sudan, does not mean that you have to preach about it all the time. It is good that Bangs is taking initiative and exploring his creative and (questionable) musical talents, but why can't he strike a balance?
I'm not saying he should try and aim for Jal's level, but 'Popcorn' seems to be the most frequently used word in this song... He should, if not for Sudan then for his own dignity, take himself a little bit more seriously.
